Editorial policy
Editorial and Medical Content Policy
We openly share how we prepare our health content, which sources it rests on and who makes the medical decisions.
In short
The specialist decides
Decisions about diagnosis, treatment, medication and dose are made by the specialist who reviews your file. Our articles are for information.
Every statement has a source
We base medical information on published studies and on information from official institutions, and link to PubMed wherever possible.
Dates change only when content does
The last-updated date on a page is the date the content actually changed.
A physician is named only after real review
If a page names a physician, that physician has actually reviewed the content and agreed to the use of their name.
Who we are
Cuba Health Assist is a healthcare coordination organisation. Treatment is provided by healthcare institutions and specialists in Cuba; we receive your application, translate your medical documents into Spanish, send them to the specialist in the relevant field in Cuba, and follow the assessment and treatment process on your behalf.
Who makes medical decisions?
Decisions about diagnosis, the choice of treatment, medication, dose and the length of treatment are made by the specialist who reviews your file. Each condition is assessed by doctors in its own field: a cancer file goes to oncology specialists, a neurological file to neurology specialists. The articles on our site are for information; your personal assessment is made by the specialist.
Who prepares our content?
The health content on our site is prepared by the Cuba Health Assist medical content team. Our articles draw on scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals, on information released by Cuba's official health institutions and manufacturers, and on the experience we gain coordinating our patients' files.
Our sources
We base medical information on published studies and on information from official institutions. Where possible, we link scientific studies to PubMed and list the sources at the end of the relevant page.
Physician review
If a page names a physician, that physician has actually reviewed the content and has agreed to the use of their name; the date of the review is shown on the same page. Other pages are prepared by our medical content team. Cuba Health Assist is responsible for the content of this site; the institutions we work with make their own medical assessments of our patients' files.
Updates and corrections
The last-updated date shown on each page is the date the content actually changed. We update a page when a new study is published or when a piece of information changes. If you think a piece of information should be updated, write to us; we will check it and update the page and its last-updated date.
Our fees and independence
We charge a fee for our coordination service; the fees are shown clearly during the application. The doctors' medical assessments and decisions are independent of this fee.
Important note
The information on this site is for general information. Make decisions about your health together with your doctor.
Institutions
Institutions we work with
In Cuba we work with Clínica Central Cira García, the La Pradera International Health Centre and other healthcare institutions on the assessment of patient files by specialists and on access to treatment. You can see our institutional agreements on our Institutional Agreements page.
